A parent must be present throughout the class if a participant is a minor (under 19 years old). \n\n\n\nWith our safe\, easy\, and efficient curriculum\, participants will gain the confidence to master fundamental bike riding skills. \n\n\n\nIn this class\, you’ll learn:– Basic bike riding skills\, including starting\, stopping\, steering\, and balancing– Safe cycling practices– How to adjust a bike helmet for appropriate fit– How to use the Bikeshare system and about the overall benefits of cycling for health\, fitness\, and transportation \n\n\n\nBikes and helmets are provided for all participants. \n\n\n\nMost participants will leave knowing how to ride a bike without support; if not\, they’ll leave equipped to keep learning independently. \n\n\n\nParticipants will also gain access to the Heartland Bikeshare System. \n\n\n\nThis class is a part the Nebraska Equity in Active Transportation (NEAT) initiative which is funded by the Omaha Community Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Bellevue Bicycle Club:  \n\n\n\n“The Ride of Silence 22nd Anniversary Ride \n\n\n\nWHERE:Twin Creek Trailhead (3601 Raynor Dr.\, Bellevue\, NE 68123)Join cyclists from all over the Greater Omaha Region in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. This ride is police escorted. Our proposed 13 mile route is here. (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45543907) \n\n\n\nOn Wed. May 15th\, 2024 at 7:00 PM\, the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. We had six cyclists killed in Nebraska in 2023. More than the past five years combined. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists\, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights\, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves. \n\n\n\nThe Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph\, wear helmets\, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees. The ride\, which is held during National Bike Month\, aims to raise the awareness of motorists\, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured. \n\n\n\nAll riders are welcome on this ride\, helmets are required\, lights and visible clothing is expected. Bellevue Bicycle Club will organize this event and will be led by supportive club volunteers. \n\n\n\nPlease join us for a ride to honor and remember cyclists who have been injured or killed\, and to raise awareness of the laws\, how cyclists and other pedestrians behave on the roads and why\, and to encourage camaraderie\, inclusion\, and the spirit of community.
