DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by Bike Walk Nebraska & Heartland Bikeshare. Official event webpage \n\n\n\nThe Bikes Skills 101: Learn-to-Ride for adults is for older teens and adults who have never learned to ride a bicycle or have not been on a bike in a long time. A parent must be present throughout the class if a participant is a minor (under 19 years old). \n\n\n\nWith our safe\, easy\, and efficient curriculum\, participants will gain the confidence to master fundamental bike riding skills. \n\n\n\nIn this class\, you’ll learn:– Basic bike riding skills\, including starting\, stopping\, steering\, and balancing– Safe cycling practices– How to adjust a bike helmet for appropriate fit– How to use the Bikeshare system and about the overall benefits of cycling for health\, fitness\, and transportation \n\n\n\nBikes and helmets are provided for all participants. \n\n\n\nMost participants will leave knowing how to ride a bike without support; if not\, they’ll leave equipped to keep learning independently. \n\n\n\nParticipants will also gain access to the Heartland Bikeshare System. \n\n\n\nThis class is a part the Nebraska Equity in Active Transportation (NEAT) initiative which is funded by the Omaha Community Foundation.

We’ll be using a sidewalk audit tool to study the ways that infrastructure does\, and does not\, promote a safe environment for those walking and rolling in this neighborhood. Expect it to be a study in contrasts! \n\n\n\nWe will meet at the Institute for the Culinary Arts at 4:00 PM. If you’re coming by bus\, Route 30 has the closest stop locations; if you’re driving\, use the parking lot just off Sorensen Parkway\, at the south end of campus.

Think of W.o.W. as a mobile party on wheels! \n\n\n\nFor our inaugural ride\, we’ll start and end at Gifford Park (where the Neighborhood Market takes place at 520 N 33rd St.) This ride will take us down Burt St. to Millwork Commons\, travel over the Bob Kerrey Bridge and explore the FIRST AVE trail in Council Bluffs.
