Demand Omaha keep & maintain the Harney Street protected bike lane! After multiple Mode Shift members contacted City Council members and testified and a unanimous Council vote in support of making the Harney St Bikeway permanent, Omaha's mayor- Jean Stothert- announced plans to remove the city's only protected bike lane. This is a bad idea. Why? So. many. reasons. And we spelled it all out in our latest blog post here.
But we need you to do more than read about the bike lane. We need you to show up. There are two big events going on this week to give all of us a chance to show the city what will happen if Omaha loses its only protected bike lane. 1. We cyclists just take the full lane - What: A bike-in is planned for Thursday, September 29th
- Where: Plan to meet at Harney Street and Turner Blvd near Dewey Park
- When: Th. 9/29 meet up at 5pm; then at 5:30 - the full group ride starts with plans to take the street and demand safe infrastructure in Omaha
2. Cyclists die-in - What: Die in at Harney and 18th
- Where: Meet at city hall at noon, then bike/walk to Harney for a die in between 18th & 19th
- When: Friday 9/30 at noon
(Please note: these are not officially Mode Shift Omaha events, but we support these events and encourage as many people to show up as possible) |
