Mode Shift Omaha currently has three (3) main action teams:

  • Walkability Team: works to improve pedestrian infrastructure in Omaha. The Walkability Team has hosted multiple Walk with Us events to bring attention to the quality of pedestrian infrastructure and recent injuries and deaths in our streets. The Team successfully pushed for a sidewalk closure policy that requires signage, detours, and discourages sidewalks on both sides of the street to be closed at the same time.
  • Bike Team: coordinates bike valet parking at community events (eg Earth Day Omaha), launched a sign-on letter to require detours for trail closures, hosts bike rides, hosted bike education events, and more.
  • Transit Team: Pushes for better transit and help more people learn about and use Omaha’s transit system. In the past, we have tracked transportation bills in the state legislative session. The Transit Team has also pushed for passage of the Regional Transit Authority legislation (passed in 2019), organized Ride the Bus with Us events to create fun bus riding opportunities, and shared information about elements of good bus rapid transit.

Check out our upcoming events here to find upcoming team meetings. Most teams are meeting via Zoom, but some teams meet in person. See each event page for details. Our teams communicate on Slack, become a Mode Shift Omaha member to join us on Slack, or reach out to us to connect: info@modeshiftomaha.org

We are always looking for volunteers to join our teams and help start new teams. Potential ideas for additional teams could include:

  • advocacy, lobbying and elections
  • city transparency
  • urban land use
  • missing middle housing

Please email info@modeshiftomaha.org to let us know if you would be interested in participating.

Thank you!
