Omaha’s Comprehensive Planning process has launched. The last Comp Plan was done in 1995. It is required by the state for cities that use zoning to regulate development. This is an opportunity to influence how Omaha develops for the next decades.
The Comp Plan will roll up all of the other plans into the one main plan the City uses to guide future development. The stated goals for engagement around the process are: equity, representation, accessibility, transparency. The Comp Plan timeline that was outlined in an April 2024 presentation
- 2024: existing conditions & current trends
- Spring 2024 – Mid 2026: community engagement
- Mid-2025 to mid-2026: Scenario planning
- 2026: Plan development
- Late 2026: zoning code update begins
