Purpose
Citizens’ Academy for Omaha’s Future is a joint project with One Omaha, Mode Shift Omaha, Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, Douglas County Health Department, Omaha by Design, and Live Well Omaha. The Academy provides knowledge, skills, and connections that graduates can leverage to advocate for their vision of the community. Participants will also learn how different values and decisions shape the built environment of Omaha. The outcomes are improved community health, more transportation options, and greater equity.
Curriculum Topics
The workshops will include topics on planning, transportation, the development process, land use, and community health. Guest speakers will emphasize when and how the public can impact the development process.

Transit and Active Transportation/Healthy Living
Navigating Local Government
Graduation & Action Plans
Format
The academy consists of seven 3-hour workshops held on Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and moderated by the host organizations.

Target Audience
Citizens’ Academy is designed for leaders from neighborhood, business, and community organizations. The class size is limited to 15 individuals. A passion for the city’s future is a prerequisite. Applicants will be selected based on responses to the application form and contribution to a representative cohort.
